A Family Trade Born in Petaling Jaya, 1980

The story of One Tailor began in 1980, when James Wong's grandfather opened a humble shop in the heart of Petaling Jaya. Trained in the rigorous, classical traditions of British tailoring, he set out with one mission: to offer the local community garments that matched international standards of elegance, yet were thoughtfully constructed for the realities of the Malaysian climate.

Generations of Klang Valley families have walked through our doors since then. We have had the honor of dressing fathers for their weddings in the 1980s and now, decades later, crafting sharp business suits for their sons working across Bandar Utama and Damansara Uptown.

Three Generations Behind the Shears

Today, the atelier is led by James, a third-generation master tailor with 22 years of hands-on experience. Growing up surrounded by imported bolts of wool and the rhythmic hum of vintage sewing machines, he naturally inherited the shears and the discipline that came with them.

Alongside him, senior cutter Ahmad Faisal, finishing specialist Carmen Lee, and style consultant Daniel Tan complete a team that has spent decades perfecting pattern drafting, hand-worked buttonholes, and the quiet art of fitting a garment to a human being.

Our Philosophy

We believe a bespoke suit should do more than fit. It should breathe in the Selangor heat, hold its shape through a long day at Jaya33, and still feel honest at the end of it. That belief shapes every fabric we stock and every seam we hand-sew.

We will tell you when an alteration is not worth the cost, when a fabric will not behave in the humidity, and when a different cut will serve you better. That is the kind of tailoring we were raised on, and it is the only kind we know how to do.
