Made-to-Measure Dress Shirts in Petaling Jaya
A bespoke shirt is the most-worn garment in any executive's wardrobe, so it should fit better than anything else you own. One Tailor crafts custom shirts in our Petaling Jaya workroom from over 200 premium cotton and linen shirtings, including cloths from Thomas Mason, Albini, Canclini and Monti. Every shirt is built around your measurements, your collar preferences and the realities of working in 32 degree heat.

A Foundation Garment, Built Around You
The shirt is the layer that sits closest to your skin and the layer your colleagues see most often when the jacket comes off in a Petaling Jaya boardroom. It deserves more thought than it usually receives. At One Tailor we treat custom shirting with the same seriousness we bring to a full-canvas suit, beginning with a hand-drafted block and refining it through a real-world fit test.
Our atelier in Petaling Jaya has been making shirts for Klang Valley professionals since 1980. James Wong leads the workroom and Carmen Lee, our head finisher, personally oversees collar and cuff construction on every commission. The result is a shirt that drapes cleanly, breathes through a humid commute and outlasts a dozen high-street equivalents.
The Climate Question Most Shirt-Makers Ignore
A factory pattern from Europe is built for a temperate office at twenty-two degrees. In a typical PJ workday you will move between thirty-two-degree car parks, fully air-conditioned meeting rooms and a humid evening dash to the LRT in Kelana Jaya. Cotton that does not breathe will trap perspiration and crease in all the wrong places. Cuts that do not allow shoulder rotation will tug across the back as soon as you reach for a coffee.
We solve this with three deliberate choices:
- High twist, two-fold cottons that allow airflow through the weave and resist creasing on long commutes along the Federal Highway and LDP.
- A slightly extended yoke and a deeper armhole so the shirt moves with you instead of pulling at the shoulder seam.
- A clean, soft collar interlining that sits well with or without a tie, because most Petaling Jaya gentlemen end the day open-necked.
Cloth from the Mills That Supply Europe’s Finest Houses
Our shirting library is curated, not catalogued. Every cloth has been chosen because it performs well in tropical conditions and ages with grace. The current collection includes:
- Thomas Mason Royal Oxfords, end-on-ends and zephyr stripes from England, ideal for boardroom whites and pale blues
- Albini Italian poplins and sea-island cottons with a soft hand and subtle sheen for evening events
- Canclini twills and herringbones for a slightly more relaxed business look
- Monti linens and cotton-linen blends for hot afternoons in Section 14 or weekend lunches in SS2
- Specialty mills for brushed cottons, denim shirtings and statement Jacquards

Detailing That Makes a Shirt Yours
Once the cloth is chosen, the design process begins. Every element is yours to shape:
Collar. Spread, semi-spread, cutaway, point, button-down or our soft Roma collar for evenings. We will photograph the collar against your face during the fit test so you can see how it frames your jaw.
Cuffs. Single, double French, mitred barrel or convertible. Cufflink wearers should ask about our hand-stitched gauntlet finish.
Placket and front. Standard, French front or fly front for a cleaner formal look under a tuxedo.
Buttons. Mother of pearl is standard. Hand-attached, cross-stitched and tied off in the traditional manner.
Monogram. Three letters in your choice of position, thread and font. Many of our PJ executive clients place a discreet monogram inside the cuff or under the placket.
Common Mistakes We See in Shirts Bought Around PJ
After forty-six years on Lorong PJU3 we have seen every shirt mistake the high street can produce. The most common are too narrow a sleeve head, which restricts arm movement; a body that is too short for a tucked shirt to stay tucked; a fused collar that bubbles after a year of dry cleaning in the local humidity; and a billowing back that bunches under a jacket. Every one of these issues is solved at the pattern stage. If you are tired of buying shirts that almost fit, the answer is not another size up, it is a block built for you.
What Happens When You Visit Our PJ Workroom
Your first appointment lasts about an hour. We talk through how you wear shirts, what frustrates you and what you need them for. Carmen takes detailed measurements and a posture assessment, and James will help you select cloths and detailing. A fit test shirt is then made from your block. You return for the fit review, we mark any final refinements, and the full order is ready in three to four weeks.
After this first cycle, your block lives permanently in our archive and reorders can be placed in minutes. Many of our regulars in Bandar Utama and Damansara Uptown simply WhatsApp us and the shirts arrive at their office.
